A load of chutzpah from brass neck King

-

DAVE KING in the pages of Sportsmail last year: ‘My father wasn’t at all keen on me becoming a Rangers supporter. He was a Glasgow policeman and, because of that, he resented the whole football scene in Glasgow. He was actually very much anti-football.’ The Rangers chairman (below) in last week’s personal letter to fans asking them to renew season tickets: ‘Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather.’ He gets points for chutzpah does Mr King, who also admits in the letter that fans haven’t been getting value for moneyney — before asking th them t to stomach a five-per-cent price increase. It is unlikely that many supporters are going to get overly precious about his pressing need for them to stump up more cash. Yes, some threw an awful lot away under the previous regime. But supporting your club, continuing to dig deep, is just what football fans do. That is certainly true if and when they believe in the man at the helm. King’s continued vagueness over his own level of financial commitment, not whether he really inherited a love of Rangers from his old man, is what concerns many. Still, now that the bold Mark Warburton and Davie Weir are on their way, the applause surrounding the imminent arrival of some much-needed new signings should be loud enough to drown out all doubts.
