Sorry, Yvette — aren’t YOU being sexist and racist?
LABOUR should not be run by two white men, says arch-feminist yvette Cooper in her bid to become leader of the labour Party (Mail). She offered no explanation for her racist and sexist tirade other than to tell us that the party needed a ‘feminist approach to our economy and society’. So, once again, we’ve witnessed a total disregard for equality demonstrated by someone who clearly believes that women are above equality legislation and that men, in general, and white men, in particular, are second-class citizens. If Jeremy Corbyn or Tom Watson, the targets of her abuse, had launched a similar attack, declaring that labour should not have to put up with a ‘white woman’ as labour leader, apologies would have been demanded, resignations expected, and heads would have rolled — probably followed by criminal charges. It has become increasingly obvious that branches of so-called feminism are merely a popular front for deriding the white male of the species in the cause of equality. I’m surprised that Mrs Balls hasn’t already demanded an all-female list of candidates for the leadership. let’s face it, her colleague harriet harman demanded a girls-only path to the election of local labour candidates and, once again, it was presented as a step towards equality, rather than the blatant attempt to delete men from the list of available options and a violation of equality laws. So can we expect an apology or resignation any time soon from the irate yvette? I doubt it, but I sincerely hope the labour supporters who will soon decide who will be their leader give her the short shrift she so richly deserves. Margaret Thatcher and Ann Widdecombe made genuine strides towards feminism when they made it clear they sought advancement based on their abilities — not because they were women.
TONY EDWARDS, ockham, surrey. ‘LABOUR should not be run by two white men,’ says Ms Cooper (Mail). And our country should not be run by someone who is both sexist and racist.
STEPHEN r. PORCAS, loughton, essex. SUPPOSE we had another type of candidate and someone said the labour Party should ‘not be led by a black woman’? All hell would be let loose on that person’s head — and quite rightly.
Name and address supplied. AS A male member of the indigenous (and harmless) white majority in this country, I take strong exception to yvette Cooper’s uncalled-for remark that labour should not be run by two white men.
