High five for McAllister as Falkirk tumble out

- By GEORGE GRANT

FIVE-GOAL Rory McAllister produced a striking masterclass last night as League One Peterhead came from behind to shock Falkirk in an incredible 5-3 win at Westfield. On a night when the Bairns’ Championship rivals Dumbarton, Raith Rovers and Queen of the South also crashed out of the cup, McAllister took centre stage at the Falkirk Stadium. David Smith and Paul Watson had put the Bairns two up inside 20 minutes, only for the Peterhead striker to turn the tie on its head with a hat-trick before the interval. The drama wasn’t over, however, as Falkirk substitute Alex Cooper levelled in the 76th minute. But McAllister replied with a long-range screamer five minutes later before putting the icing on the cake with a late penalty. Dumbarton also fell victim to a cup shock with a surprise 1-0 extra-time defeat at Queen’s Park. Garry Fleming had the chance to win it for the Sons with a late penalty but sent his effort high and wide. That set the scene for Joe Bradley to win it for League Two Spiders with a strike in the first period of extra-time. Raith crashed out following a 2-0 defeat to League One Stenhousemuir at Ochilview. Alan Cook put the hosts ahead with a placed finish in the 67th minute before Stephen Stirling caught Raith keeper Kevin Cuthbert off his line with an audacious 25-yard lob. Raith skipper Jason Thomson was then shown a stoppagetime red card for a late tackle on Stirling. Cup holders Livingston left it late to dispose of Queen of the South at Palmerston — Jordan White scoring the winner with five minutes remaining of extra-time. Elsewhere, St Mirren had to fight back from a goal down at Annan to secure their passage to the third round with a narrow 2-1 victory. Former Morton player Peter Weatherson gave the League Two side a surprise lead with a first-minute penalty. The Buddies, still to pick up a point in the Championship, had to wait until five minutes after the interval for Jordan Stewart to level before Alan Gow snatched the winner in the 66th minute. Dunfermline continued their winning ways with a convincing 3-0 success at League One rivals Forfar. It didn’t quite match the goalfests the Pars fans have been enjoying in the league, but two strikes from Michael Moffat and another from Faissal El Bakhtaoui were enough to see off the 10-man Loons, who lost Kevin Nichol to a red card.
