Dear students, that frosted glass in your bathroom? It’s see-through!
WheN you share a house with six others, a certain lack of privacy is to be expected.
But there was one place these students were sure would be free from prying eyes – the bathroom. Unfortunately this turned out not to be the case – and the housemates have been left red-faced after finding out their evening showers were the most revealing moments of their day.
The seven undergraduates in Brighton thought nothing of stripping off in front of the frosted bathroom window overlooking the street. But shortly after moving in, they received an anonymous letter urging them to ‘ask the landlord to install a blind’. The light-hearted note, which is addressed to ‘the new occupiers’, says: ‘We thought we should mention something that has become apparent to us. The frosted glass in the bathroom of your house does not give you much privacy. hardly any in fact, especially in the evening when the light is switched on.’
It is signed: ‘Your friendly neighbours in the houses opposite.’
Gabi Abadi, who lives in the house and attends the University of Sussex, said the group was greatly entertained by the com- ments. ‘We got this letter a few days ago,’ the 21-year-old said. ‘I thought it was hilarious. I just don’t get how they can see in.’
She said the window was a ‘stupid design’ – but was concerned about the impact on the family who live across the road.
‘We can’t see out of the window at all,’ the second-year geography student explained. ‘We can see if it’s dark or light but that’s it. It’s a family who live opposite us – if their kids are young we should do something about it.’ She added that the housemates might tell the landlord, but don’t realistically expect anything to be done to solve the problem. ‘We might have to hang a towel over the window,’ she said.
