Really shocking! The ‘lipsticks’ that are stun guns in disguise

- Daily Mail Reporter

WITH its pink casing, this ‘lip- stick’ looks harmless enough.

But when you find out what it really does, you may – literally – be in for a shock.

For women are carrying stun guns disguised as make-up in a bid to stay safe on nights out.

The weapons – which claim to pack up to 3million volts – can be bought online for as little as £14.50, and are designed to be kept in a pocket or handbag.

They are often described as ‘portable’ and ‘discreet’, with one seller’s description saying their product offered ‘convenience and peace of mind’.

It added that is was perfect for any size of handbag, be it an ‘oversized purse or an evening clutch’.

Their presence has forced police to issue a reminder that stun guns are classed as firearms. This means anyone caught with one could face up to five years in prison. One woman, 27, was arrested in Stoke-on-Trent for carrying a stun gun disguised as a lipstickshaped torch in August.

She was released on bail while officers carried out investigations.

But PC David Stubbs, who assisted with the arrest, said it was not the first time the force had recovered such a device.

And one 25-year-old mother told the Daily Star that she owned one so she could protect herself. ‘We’ve been bur- gled three times in almost a year so I bought one for selfdefence,’ she said.

‘I haven’t used it yet – but I wouldn’t hesitate if it meant I was protecting myself and my family.’
