EUGENIE INTENDS TO SUE USA TENNIS ‘FOR MILLIONS’ OVER SLIP

-

EUGENIE Bouchard has filed a lawsuit against the united States Tennis association (USTA) over the fall she suffered in a locker room during the US open last month.

The 21-year-old canadian withdrew i n new York after hitting her head and suffering concussion. She has si nce played one competitive set before retiring from the china open l ast week with dizziness.

The former Wimbledon finalist is seeking damages — her lawyer Benedict Morelli told the New York

Times: ‘We could be talking about millions and millions’ — from the Usta and USTA national Tennis centre.

The lawsuit alleges she fell because of ‘a slippery, f oreign and dangerous substance on the floor’.

Former world no 3 Pam Shriver tweeted: ‘This won’t help anyone. accidents happen every day. Let’s stop litigious default.’

Meanwhile, andy Murray faces world no 5 Tomas Berdych in the quarterf i nals of the Shanghai Masters today after beating John isner 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

and while much of the recent discussion has centred around the Scot’s plans ahead of the davis cup final next month, he has revealed that he already has one eye on playing in next season’s competition.

Murray is planning on playing in the first-round tie against Japan at home in March, which would be his return to action after the scheduled birth of his first child in February.

he said: ‘The plan is to play my first match (back) i n davis cup against Japan, but i’m definitely not going to play any t ournaments between australia and then.’

a potential davis cup quarter-final could prove difficult, however, as it is being held around three weeks before the rio olympics get under way.

‘For me, the olympics is the biggest event that i’ll play in my career,’ added Murray. ‘i’m going to look at that period and make sure i get my schedule and preparations right.’
