FOOTBALL
Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea, 7pm, BT Sport 2

PAY-PER-VIEW MOVIE
Jurassic World, BT TV/Sky Store/Virgin Movies
A BELATED sequel to the original dinosaur trilogy, and it’s every bit as terrifically OTT as it should be. This time round, Bryce Dallas Howard is the theme-park manager with a monster of a problem on her hands.
PLEASURE CRUISES
The People’s Liners, 9pm, BBC4
A ROMANTIC journey back to when steamers transported holidaying Britons along the coast, from our industrial cities to our seaside resorts. The vessels were affordable, but often luxuriously appointed — with lunches served by immaculately dressed waiters — and they even hosted on- board entertainment. One passenger recalls a performance by Shirley Bassey.
MINING REALITY SHOW
Gold Rush, 9pm, Discovery
THE U.S. mining reality show is back for a new run, and the crew have managed to get their earliest-ever start — but don’t have a foreman. Like Deadliest Catch, Gold Rush is never knowingly understated.
DEATH-ROW DRAMA
Rectify, 9pm, AMC
SEASON two of this masterly U.S. drama about death row inmate who is released after 19 years, but doesn’t find his home town entirely welcoming. As it begins, Daniel (Aden Young, pictured) is in a coma — trapped in memories of prison — after taking a beating at the end of season one. This is the sort of show that moves slowly, but is no less gripping for its pace.
MOVIE DRAMA
Mud, 9pm, Film4
MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY shows off his serious acting skills again in this Deep South coming-of-ager — and does so for the next three nights in a short Film4 season. Here, he’s a Magwitch-style escaped con using a pair of naive youngsters to aid his nefarious plans.
HORROR DRAMA American Horror Story: Hotel, 10pm, Fox
THE demented horror anthology series returns for a new run, and the absence of Jessica Lange — who, while an excellentllt actress,t hadh started to dominate the show — has given it a new energy, with a believably vampiric Lady Gaga (pictured) as the owner of a ‘living, breathing beast’ of a hotel in LA. This is a stylish but very nasty show that is, at times, just too horrific to watch.
EASY-GOING COMEDY
Together, 10.30pm, BBC3
MORE from the light, easy-going romcom, written by and starring Jonny Sweet. Here, Tom (Sweet) is romancing Ellen with a meal — but it’s at his parents’ house, and his dad (Alex Macqueen) has developed a weird fascination for snails.

SAM PECKINPAH’S violent, uncompromising western gave a gritty comeback role to William Holden as the leader of the aged gang of the title. Seeking one final payday before retirement, the outlaws have anything but an easy ride, facing double-cross, betrayal and gunfire at every turn.
