It’s good to be back! 3 weeks after cancer op, Victoria’s on TV
IT’S less than a month since she underwent gruelling breast cancer surgery.
But yesterday Victoria Derbyshire returned to her BBC2 morning show with a beaming smile that reassured viewers she was well on the road to recovery.
The presenter, 47, thanked those at home for their ‘tremendous messages’ of support during her treatment.
Looking happy and confident, Miss Derbyshire outlined what was coming up on the programme, before telling viewers: ‘And by the way, thank you for all your tremendous messages in the last week or so to me.
‘They mean a great deal. Thank you.’
The former BBC Radio 5 Live journalist was diagnosed with breast cancer during the summer and disclosed the news to her 49,500 Twitter followers in August.
Miss Derbyshire chose to be open about her mastectomy treatment, recording a video diary following her surgery on September 24 which she released last week.
The footage, which was broadcast on her Victoria Derbyshire programme, opened with her wearing a hospital gown, holding a sign which read: ‘Hi. This morning I had breast cancer’. She then smiled brightly while holding up another board, reading: ‘This evening I don’t!’
The mother of two said in the video: ‘The reason I wanted to talk about what has happened to me is that I am a pretty open person.
‘But also because more than one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer. And here’s the thing – having cancer is manageable. Having a mastectomy is totally doable.
‘I didn’t know that until I got cancer and that’s what I want to tell people. I know everyone is different and has different experiences. This is mine and I hope you don’t mind me sharing that with you.’
