Top band Lawson headline Perth’s winter switch-on
PErTH is the place to be over the next two months as it plays host to the biggest and best City of Perth Winter festival yet. This will feature highlights such as tomorrow’s spectacular Christmas Light SwitchOn with an exclusive performance from top band Lawson, as well as a Chocolate festival, followed by St Andrew’s Day celebrations and a Santa fun run.
Get into a festive mood tomorrow with the switch-on on Tay Street, where special guests will include Lawson, 1980s pop icons Billy Ocean and Showaddywaddy and local artists Paradise found and Sacha Taylor.
Headline act Lawson are just back in the UK after supporting robbie Williams on his Australian tour. The pop rock band have enjoyed huge success in the UK and around the world.
Their debut album, Chapman Square, reached number three in the UK album chart as well as generating six UK top 20 hit singles.
The fun doesn’t stop there, for activities including street entertainers, a One Direction tribute act and a frozen tribute show. reindeer, huskies and a Santa’s Grotto will also be in evidence throughout the day.
Or for those who fancy something sweet, Perth festival of Chocolate will return over the weekend, offering an exclusive chocolate shopping experience. With a variety of fine chocolatiers scheduled to attend, offering workshops, talks and live demos, the festival is set to make every chocolate lover’s dreams come true.
To maintain the momentum in the countdown to Christmas, the popular Coca-Cola Truck will be arriving in Perth on Sunday – a great opportunity to take that must-have #holidays arecoming selfie!
The following weekend, Saturday, November 28, the Perth Community Christmas and Craft Market will give shoppers a perfect chance to view and buy unique festive gifts from local craftworkers and artisans.
The St Andrew’s Day Celebration will round off the month in a truly patriotic style with a festival on November 29 ahead of Scotland’s patron saint’s day.
The festival will include a Scottishthemed market showcasing Perth’s rich food and drink heritage, including haggis, venison, oatcakes and whisky as well as stirring performances from pipers and Highland dancers.
And with Christmas in sight, a Santa fun run has been organised to allow runners to take to the streets wearing Santa suits to complete a 2k route through Perth City on Saturday, December 12.
