RANGERS 2 CELTIC 2 SCOTTISH CUP FIFTH ROUND, FEBRUARY 6, 2011

Provided perhaps the most iconic moment of Scott Brown’s Celtic career as his 65th-minute equaliser sparked an in-your-face celebration in front of ElHadji Diouf (right). Jamie Ness gave Rangers the lead before Kris Commons equalised a minute later. Just before the break, Celtic No1 Fraser Forster was sent off as he conceded a penalty, scored by Steven Whittaker. Then up stepped Brown, curling home from the edge of the area. Steven Naismith was also shown a red card.

Rangers twice came from behind, with Peter Lovenkrands (right) scoring a dramatic winner in added time. Both sides were struggling with injuries but each manager gambled and played their most lethal line-up, as Paul Lambert, Chris Sutton and Bobo Balde started for Celtic and Ronald de Boer slotted into midfield for Rangers to allow a speedy front three to torment the Celtic defence. Celtic twice led through John Hartson and Balde but Lovenkrands and Barry Ferguson struck before the Dane’s coup de grace.

One of the more fiery clashes saw three players sent off and two disputed penalties in Celtic’s Treble-winning season. Chris Sutton put Martin O’Neill’s side ahead in the sixth minute before Henrik Larsson doubled the advantage. A Jorg Albertz penalty gave the Ibrox side a lifeline before Larsson slotted from the spot (right). Claudio Reyna was given a second yellow for a tackle on Bobby Petta, with Lubo Moravcik and Michael Mols given straight reds in the resultant melee.

There were four sendings-off as Celtic triumphed thanks to Gerry Creaney’s strike and a Dariusz Wdowczyk goal. Peter Grant of Celtic was first to be red-carded after two bookings, the first for a foul and the second for charging the ball down from the resultant free-kick. Ibrox boss Graeme Souness apologised to the Rangers support after Terry Hurlock, Mark Walters and Mark Hateley also saw red. There were also seven yellow cards in the match, which became known as the Shame Game.

Played in front of the last Hampden crowd of more than 100,000, Rangers skipper John Greig hoisted the trophy above his head in the club’s centenary year. Rangers twice came from behind to level through goals from Derek Parlane and Alfie Conn after Kenny Dalglish and George Connolly had put Celtic ahead. Defender Tom Forsyth (left) netted the winner from a few yards out with his first-ever goal for the Ibrox side.
