Graham SampSon, of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, hopes to trace members of the Konrads — the early Sixties rock group of which the late, great David Bowie was a member in his teens.

Graham was involved with the band for a couple of years, and was a close friend of its founder and lead guitarist neville Wills, who, sadly, also died of cancer.

‘I hope alan Dodds, the rhythm guitarist who was far better than I was, is still around, and drummer Dave hadfield, but unfortunat­ely I can’t remember the bassist’s name. (I have just turned 76, after all!)

‘others who, like me, joined in jam sessions in neville’s bungalow in Chislehurs­t, Kent — while his mum was, mercifully, out at work — included mick milo. We all lived in the Bromley or Chislehurs­t area.

‘I would love to meet any of these guys.

‘I only remember playing publicly with the group once, at the Civic hall orpington.

‘about that time I met Liz, the girl I later married, so there Pre-fame: The Konrads, with David Bowie on sax was increasing competitio­n for my spare time.

Working in the air ministry from 1958 until 1963 was not too onerous, but on promotion I was transferre­d to the ministry of public Building & Works, and in 1965 posted to Singapore in support of the military for three years, taking Liz with me.

‘I still own a few guitars and get together with friends to play music and relive our youth — so far without complaint from the neighbours!

‘I have jokingly suggested we play for the old folks’ home nearby.’
