Partick’s Frans keen to prolong love affair with Scottish football

- CALUM CROWE

JAGS defender Frederic Frans insists the quality of Scottish football has convinced him he wants to stay at the club. The 27-year-old Belgian centre-half, who joined from SK Lierse two years ago, is out of contract in the summer but has fallen so much in love with Glasgow that he will not rule out the possibility of ending his career at Firhill. After a thrilling draw with Hamilton, he revealed an offer is already on the table. ‘I would love to stay and have expressed that to the club,’ he said. ‘They want me to stay too and have made me an offer. ‘We will talk more over the next week or so and make a decision in the next few weeks. ‘The grass isn’t always greener somewhere else. Money is nice, but the most important thing is to feel good. ‘There’s a big chance I will stay. Glasgow is an amazing city. I could stay here forever. If I stayed for the next seven or eight years, I would be a happy man. ‘People always talk badly about Scottish football, but I don’t see it that way. Yeah, there are some bad games, but there are bad games in Belgium as well. ‘With Rangers coming up next season, it will be a really decent league. The fans are good and the games are intense.’ Kris Doolan nodded Thistle in front after three minutes to become the first Jags player to net in five consecutive top-flight matches since Joe McBride in 1961. Eamonn Brophy hauled Accies level from the spot then David Amoo’s header put the hosts back in front again. However, Brophy swiftly levelled to secure the draw for Hamilton.
