CLASSIC COMEDIES Last Of The Summer Wine/ Keeping Up Appearances, 1pm & 6.40pm/7.20pm, Drama
TWO great comedies, both created by Roy Clarke, begin repeats from the start. Last Of The Summer Wine was first shown in 1973, while Keeping Up Appearances introduced Patricia Routledge as Hyacinth Bucket in 1990. A prequel to the latter, starring Kerry Howard (Him & Her), is on the way.

SWISS star Stan Wawrinka stopped the Novak Djokovic juggernaut at the 2015 French Open, and he will want to use this home tournament to play himself into form before he defends that title in Paris.
PERIOD DRAMA Mapp And Lucia, 4.40pm, ITV Encore
THIS Channel 4 series from 1985 is a delightfully enjoyable tale of social rivalry. Prunella Scales plays the village queen Mapp, while Geraldine McEwan is Lucia, her Italian-spouting usurper.

WEDNESDAY have vowed to keep attacking in the Championship playoffs (this is the semifinal second leg), and will hope that the Seagulls have yet to pick themselves up after being beaten to second place in the league by Middlesbrough.
ROMCOM Manhattan Love Story, Sky On Demand / Now TV
CHEERY but short-lived, 11-episode U.S. romcom set in the early days of a relationship between serial dater Peter (Limitless star Jake McDorman) and the awkward Dana (Analeigh Tipton). They make all kinds of mistakes, and we hear their inner monologues as they do so.
SPY DOCUMENTARY Double Agent: The Eddie Chapman Story, 9pm, BBC4

QUIRKY COMEDY Plebs, 10pm, ITV2
THE rude but fun lads-about-Rome comedy – like a modern or ancient version of Men Behaving Badly, depending on how you look at it – ends with a new neighbour (David Bamber) for the boys (played by Ryan Sampson, Tom Rosenthal and Joel Fry, pictured). He’s a weatherman, and brings them an unexpected romantic advantage...
FREEVIEW MOVIE The Master, 11.10pm, Film4
PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON followed up There Will Be Blood with another demanding yet rewarding drama. Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman are both excellent as pupil and teacher of a new way of thinking in a bleak and aimless 1950s America.
POLITICAL SATIRE Veep, 11.20pm, Sky Atlantic
IT HAS moved to a later timeslot and attracts few viewers, but that’s no reflection on the quality of this scorching U.S. series. Tonight, with her mother at death’s door, President Meyer is more interested in the recount that could keep her in office. A masterclass in comedy.
