Troubled Sinead vanishes for weekend

- From Tom Leonard in New York

SIneAd o’Connor was found safe last night after the troubled singer’s disappearance prompted a police search.

the 49-year-old Irish performer, who has a history of mental illness, sparked serious fears after failing to return from an early morning bicycle ride in north Chicago on Sunday.

She had previously disappeared for a day and a half after after the death of Prince, whose song nothing Compares 2 u turned her into a global star.

An unknown caller, who expressed concern for the singer, contacted police on Sunday, saying she had left her home in the exclusive area of Wilnette to go out riding on a motorised bicycle at 6am – but had not returned. Miss o’Connor had been wearing leather trousers, a parka coat and a sweatshirt with ‘Ireland’ written on it when she disappeared.

However only a few hours after announcing that they were searching for her in order to check on her ‘wellbeing’, police revealed: ‘She was found safe and is no longer listed as missing or in danger.’

Last week the mother-of-four accused American comedian Arsenio Hall of supplying drugs to Prince, who died last month of what police believe was an overdose of prescription painkillers.

Hall promptly denied the claim and filed a £3.46million lawsuit against her, calling Miss o’Connor’s suggestions ‘despicable’. the singer, who has previously claimed to have almost answered what she calls the ‘siren call of suicide’ several times, then raised concerns by posting a quote on Facebook, which said: ‘there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death. If I could not have one I would have the other.’

And in november, she raised alarm bells after claiming she had taken an overdose following ‘horrifying betrayals’ from family members and ex-boyfriends she accused of ‘appalling cruelty’.

‘there is only so much any woman can be expected to bear,’ she said in a series of emotional posts, adding: ‘I’ve taken an overdose.

‘there is no other way to get respect.’ Within hours of her suicide claim, however, Irish police officers managed to find her ‘safe and sound’ in a dublin hotel, and the singer reportedly received medical treatment.
