Put Geldof on the Leave boat!

-

I WAS appalled by the behaviour of the Remain boat headed by Sir Bob Geldof towards our fishermen (Mail), who desperately need their voices heard. For three days during World War II, hundreds of fishermen took their boats across the Channel, risking their lives to rescue thousands of British troops from the beaches at Dunkirk. My uncle was one of those injured but rescued, and so many owed their lives to those brave fishermen. How were they repaid? Our treacherous government gave all but 20 per cent of their territory to the EU, crippling the livelihoods of these men whose fathers and grandfathers had been fishermen. The EU even paid it to burn the boats, ensuring the decimation of our fleets.

THE hilarious spectacle of Nigel Farage and Bob Geldof trading insults on the River Thames over the EU referendum reminds me of the 18th-century custom, as related by Samuel Johnson’s biographer, Boswell, of those travelling by boat on the Thames shouting verbal abuse, often in the coarsest language, at each other as they passed.
