Spurs close to completing £11million deal for Wanyama

-

TOTTENHAM were last night closing in on an £11million swoop for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama. Just days after losing manager Ronald Koeman to Everton, the Saints are resigned to losing their dominant central midfielder after accepting an offer from Tottenham. If, as expected, the former Celtic star’s move goes through in the next 48 hours, it will end Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino’s twoyear wait to land the toughtackling Kenya international. Once Wanyama completes a scheduled medical, he will sign a four-year deal with the White Hart Lane club. Pochettino tried to sign him at the start of last season but his efforts proved fruitless as Southampton dug their heels in. However, the landscape surrounding Wanyama’s future has changed given he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract. And Southampton have decided to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season. The south-coast club tried to keep the 24-year-old at St Mary’s by offering him a new contract. But his decision to snub an improved deal has triggered the Saints’ decision to sell ahead of next season.
