Grey’s star Kevin splits from his wife of 17 years
SINCE he shot to fame alongside Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle in Trainspotting, his career has gone from strength to strength.
But now, only a year after they both became US citizens, Kevin McKidd and his wife Jane have announced the end of their 17-year marriage.
The Scot, who played Tommy in Danny Boyle’s film of Irvine Welsh’s gritty novel, has become a huge star in the States after landing the role of Owen Hunt in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.
The 42-year-old actor, originally from Elgin, Moray, and his wife married in 1999, and have two children – Joseph, 16, and 14-year-old Iona.
However, it is understood the couple had been separated since October and Jane filed for legal separation shortly before their July 1 wedding anniversary, seeking joint custody of their children.
In a statement issued to several US publications, McKidd’s representative said: ‘Kevin and Jane have jointly decided to end their marriage. They look forward to continuing to co-parent their children, who have been their top priority, and will to continue to enjoy a close and caring relationship.’
McKidd was a distillery worker and a builder before moving into acting. His breakthrough role in Trainspotting came in 1996, but after struggling to find work in the UK, he moved to America a decade ago, settling with his family in Los Angeles.
Last year, he became a US citizen and took the pledge of allegiance along with his wife and their two children at an official ceremony in California.
He later posted a snap on Twitter, telling his 464,000 followers that he was ‘proud and emotional’.
The actor will next appear on the big screen opposite Alicia Vikander and Cara Delevingne in Tulip Fever.
But he will not be seen in the sequel Trainspotting 2, currently being filmed for release next year, as his character died from an HIV-related disease after becoming a drug addict.
