star Miriam Margolyes says her GP father Joseph was left ‘crushed’ when he found out she was a lesbian. ‘When he learned that I was never going to get married, that I was homosexual, I think that was a bad moment for him,’ says Miriam, 75. ‘It crushed him and I regret it, of course, but you know, life is what it is. He came from a conventional Jewish family and, of course, he wanted a daughter who would get married and have babies and be a good Jewish housewife and cook and sew and all those kind of things. So I think I deeply disappointed him.’
