Round of hell claims Crook

- GRAHAM MARSDEN

CROOK and Oakdale entered the fifth round of the Daily Mail Foursomes still hopeful of winning the men’s and women’s trophies. Two weeks later and their chances have been reduced to nothing. Crook’s Peter Shaw and Jonathan Major were edged out 2&1 by Consett & District’s Ian Johnson and Gary Kennedy, while Valerie Davies and Carole Mason were humbled 5&4 by Durham City’s Gail Walton and Helen Loverock. Oakdale’s Graeme Fountain and Paul Hepworth lost 6&5 to Dinsdale Spa’s Martin Janes and Ian Pattison. Women’s pair, Lynn Wood and Allison Wormald, were beaten 4&3 by Pearl Crossen and Janet Payne of Wilton, whose men’s pair are still in the competition.
