Call of nature sparks fury

-

PABLO CUEVAS and his doubles partner Marcel Granollers could be fined after staging a sit-down protest yesterday during their defeat by Britain’s Jonny Marray and Canadian Adil Shamasdin. In bizarre scenes during the fifth set, Cuevas was given a code violation for threatening to urinate into a tennis-ball can after the Uruguayan was refused permission to go to the toilet. The pair were later issued with a second code violation for hitting the ball out of the court and docked a point — prompting them to refuse to play. When play eventually restarted, Marray and Shamasdin clinched a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, 14-12 victory to reach the quarter-finals, but security had to step in following the match as Cuevas and his Spanish partner remonstrated with officials. Wimbledon will today decide whether to fine the pair.
