Flight 370 search to be called off
THE hunt for missing flight MH370 will be suspended once the current search in the Indian Ocean is finished, it was announced yesterday.
Malaysian officials acknowledged that ‘the likelihood of finding the aircraft is fading’. They said the search could be revived, but only if new evidence emerges. The announcement prompted anger from the families of the 239 passengers and crew onboard the Boeing 777 when it vanished during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.
Transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said: ‘Malaysia, Australia and China have collectively decided to suspend the search upon completion of the 120,000square-kilometre [46,300-square-mile] search area.’ The hunt is expected to be finished by December.
