The ‘pob’, style that says you’re in charge

-

IF you are a woman politician, it seems that if you want to get ahead, get a good haircut.

Known as the political bob – or ‘pob’ – the feathery short style is now the favoured look of powerful women across the globe, including Prime Minister Theresa May, White House hopeful Hillary Clinton, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and German chancellor Angela Merkel. And, according to hairstylist to the stars Julia Carta, the fact that the four have a ‘pob’ is no coincidence.

She said: ‘Shorter, more precise styles give the impression that women can hack it in the man’s world of politics.

‘These women are ruling the world, they don’t want people to be distracted by their hair, so shorter, sharper power cuts all help them to be taken seriously.’

However, celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke told the Daily Mail that it’s more likely that, as older women, they were more likely to prefer a bob.

He said: ‘They are women of a certain age and such women do tend to wear their hair shorter. Longer hair often needs to be tied back and can appear too prim and proper, otherwise if it is loose it can appear too frivolous.’

Mr Clarke also said bobs were much more ‘practical’ for power women.

‘You know that even if you have to do it yourself it will look okay, you won’t have to deal with bits flying everywhere’, he said.
