Scot plunges to his death from holiday f lat on sunshine island

- By Gerard Couzens

AN investigation has been launched on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza after a Scottish tourist fell to his death from a fifthfloor apartment.

Christopher Beattie was found at 7.30am on Saturday after he plunged from the building in Ses Variades, a district of party hotspot San Antonio which is popular with tourists.

Paramedics were called but Mr Beattie, from Glasgow, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Beattie is believed to have fallen shortly after 1am on Saturday. A neighbour told police she heard a loud noise around that time. He had no documentation on him but was identified a few hours later.

As the Civil Guard in Ibiza began its investigation, tributes were paid to 33-year-old Mr Beattie.

His girlfriend, Lesley-Ann Langan, posted on social media: ‘This morning I got the news that my boyfriend had died whilst on holiday in Ibiza. I feel like my heart has been ripped out and shredded.

‘My thoughts are with his family and I just keep expecting him to call or text. It’s devastating that someone can just disappear from your life in the blink of an eye.’

Mr Beattie’s brother Paul wrote on Facebook that the family was ‘totally heartbroken’. He said: ‘Yesterday we got the devastating news that my brother Christopher Beattie passed away while on holiday. Christopher was a one-off and I can’t believe I will never see him again.’

One friend, Michael Dorrian, posted: ‘Devastated. He was an amazing friend to me growing up.’

No one from the police force in Ibiza could be contacted yesterday but a Foreign Office spokesman said: ‘We are providing assistance to the family of a British national who has died in Ibiza.’
