Obama’s brother: I’m voting Trump

- From Daniel Bates in New York

BARACK Obama’s halfbrother has revealed he is so ‘disappointed’ with him that he is voting for Donald Trump as President. Malik Obama said he was switching from being a lifelong Democrat as he felt Republican Mr Trump is ‘something fresh’ – and he hates his brother’s support for same-sex marriages.

He claims the final straw came last month when the FBI decided not to prosecute Mr Trump’s Democrat rival Hillary Clinton for using a private email server while Secretary of State.

Malik, 58, even wears one of the property billionaire’s ‘Make America Great Again’ hats.

At home in the Kenyan village of Kogelo, Malik said: ‘I like Donald Trump because he speaks from the heart. “Make America Great Again” is a great slogan. I would like to meet him.’

Speaking to the New York Post, Malik said he will travel to Maryland to vote for Mr Trump in November’s election. He is registered to vote in the state having worked as an accountant there for years.

Malik said he felt a ‘deep disappointment’ after President Obama’s two terms in the White House and said Mrs Clinton ‘should have known better’ than to send and receive classified information on the server.

But it is his brother’s backing for gay marriage that has annoyed him the most.

Malik is known to have three wives, although reports claim it could be 12. He said: ‘I feel like a Republican now because they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me ..... Mr Trump is providing something new and something fresh.’

The President and Malik share a father, Barack Obama Sr, who left Kenya in 1958 when Malik was one. He enrolled at university in Hawaii where he married Stanley Ann Dunham, who gave birth to their son Barack.

Malik first met the future President in 1985 and was best man when he wed Michelle in 1992, but last spoke to him a year and a half ago. President Obama, 54, has seven half-siblings and Malik is the eldest.

Malik said he was annoyed when his brother did not support his own run for office in 2013 – he spent £14,000 on a failed bid to be governor of the south-west Kenyan county of Siaya.

Meanwhile Mr Trump suggested he might ban French and German citizens from the US as their countries are ‘compromised by terrorism’ after recent attacks and had let too many people ‘into their territory’. He previously demanded a ban on all Muslims entering the US.
