Fergie marks 30th anniversary — 20 years after divorce

-

It was a family day out at the races as the Duchess of York joined her former husband Prince andrew and their daughter Princess Eugenie at ascot on saturday. But few onlookers realised that the date had a special significance for the royal couple, who seemingly can’t live with — or without — each other.

For the pair, who married on July 23, 1986, were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, despite having divorced 20 years ago.

‘she and andrew were going to spend time together in the evening on saturday to mark their anniversary, and andrew invited her along to ascot to enjoy the day,’ says a friend. ‘He was representing the Queen, who was in scotland.’

this might explain why Fergie (pictured on saturday with Eugenie) was allowed into the Royal Box for the first time in years. Last month, she curtseyed to the Queen and Prince Philip at the Royal ascot meeting, but had to make do with standing on the balcony next to the Royal Box.

Just a few months ago, Fergie was said to be starting a new life in switzerland and was even applying to become a permanent resident in the tax haven.

However, a friend says: ‘the truth is that sarah is spending more and more time back at the Royal Lodge, where she lived for years, and less time in switzerland. she misses andrew and her daughters.’
