Colours... and a magical moment to ref lect

-

OUT for an evening cycle ride, Hugh Nicol was quick to snap the beautiful scene that caught his eye.

Now the estate manager, who describes himself as ‘not even an amateur’ photographer, has won first prize in a prestigious competition that challenged entrants to find colour in the Scottish landscape.

His stunning shot, which perfectly captures the reflections as a fishing boat ploughs through the waters of Loch Creran, in Argyll, impressed Scottish artist John Lowrie Morrison, known as Jolomo, who launched his Colours of Scotland competition last year.

He said: ‘I love the way Hugh has expressed the landscape through reflection. He has captured a moment in time.’

Mr Nicol said the stunning scenery near his home in Portnacroish, Appin, made taking the picture ‘easy’.
