Horror that won’t fade
IT was incredibly moving to see images of the Pope visiting Auschwitz concentration camp this week and taking a solitary walk under the notorious Arbeit Macht Frei sign.
Anyone who has been to Auschwitz understands what a difficult, and sobering place it is, the final resting place for more than 1.5million during the Second World War. In today’s uncertain and violent world, it is sometimes easy to believe that we have never had it so bad.
The Pope’s visit is a reminder that we must never forget the horrors of our still-recent past.
