SORRY, but the Betfred Cup has been a pre-season irrelevance. Kudos to the SPFL for trying something new. BT Sport are happy with something to fill their summer schedules. The sponsors have had plenty of coverage. Holders Ross County are out. And Premiership Dundee are in the brown stuff. But punters seem utterly indifferent to the whole thing. Every format deserves a bit of time to develop. Some breathing space. It’s possible it could all kick off in the last 16. But saving the League Cup feels more and more like flogging a dead horse. There’s no European place at stake. If it’s done, let it die.
