THIS IS WHAT 51 LOOKS LIKE

Lisa Roberts on, a handbag designer, lives in nottingham with her teenage son, Cameron, and daughter Mackenzie. she shares her secrets for looking years younger . . .

LIGHTEN YOUR HAIR

DARK hair may look striking when we’re younger, but as we age we need lighter shades to lift the skin tone. Avoid bleach, which will strip your hair of moisture, and gradually lighten with highlights. Soft highlights around the face make the complexion look smoother and softer.

INVEST WISELY IN FASHION

IT’S important as we get older to know what clothes suit us and what don’t. The wrong cut on a certain body shape can add years. For a younger look, it’s important to stick to classic styles you know suit you, but with a nod to current trends. Invest in good quality shoes, bags, knitwear and sunglasses to modernise your look. Cos, part of the H&M group, and Zara are my go-to stores.

TRY A NEW WORKOUT

STAYING fit keeps me young. I run four or five times a week with friends and we do the occasional 10k race for motivation. Recently, I’ve been enjoying the book Lean In 15 (£7.99,

amazon.co.uk) by fitness instructor Joe Wicks, aka The Body Coach. It’s full of 15-minute recipes and highintensity interval training (HIIT) workouts — short bursts of intense exercise with rest periods. It’s great for quick fat-burning before a holiday.

NEVER USE SOAP

I THINK soap can be very harsh and strip skin of its moisture, which is essential to keep a youthful glow. I swear by Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (£44), Line-Reducing Concentrate (£49) to target wrinkles and Skin Rescuer (£29.50, kiehls.co.uk) for moisture.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

LAST year I started my own fashion brand. It’s important to enjoy work and inspire your children to challenge themselves, too. I started drawing designs for leather bum bags, which let the wearer be hands-free but safe in the knowledge their possessions are secure. A few months later, Lisa Lemon was born (lisa-lemon.com). It’s vital to push yourself and do what you love, no matter how old you are. Interview by ALI PANTONY
