‘PLAYER INQUEST WILL HELP US BOUNCE BACK’

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

KENNY MILLER has revealed that the Rangers players held a post-match dressingroom inquest after being dismantled 3-1 by Burnley. But the veteran forward insisted the Ibrox club will bounce back from being too open and error-strewn in the friendly loss and are capable of stopping Celtic’s bid for six in a row. Mark Warburton’s men were taken apart with worrying ease by a treble from Burnley striker Andre Gray on Saturday, with the Scots managing only an own goal from Ben Mee. But Miller has vowed that after a few home truths were aired, Rangers will be ready for the Scottish Premiership kick-off against Hamilton on Saturday. He said: ‘We always analyse things win, lose or draw — but it might have been a bit longer this time after the game as there were a few things that probably needed to be said. ‘What was said remains within the dressing room but you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out the issues that need to be addressed. ‘A few lapses cost us. And when you are playing against a team of Burnley’s standard and you are as open as we were then they will punish you. We saw that with the two goals and when they hit the post, it was all from our turnovers. ‘So in terms of the goals we lost, we have to look at that and hopefully make sure those kind of situations don’t come up again. ‘Burnley was always going to be a good test but it’s disappointing to lose any game. ‘There are things we need to be better at. We need to make sure the issues that arose today don’t come back again.’ Despite being cut open so easily by the English Premier League new boys, Miller vows Rangers are capable of being crowned champions of Scotland in their first season back in the top flight. ‘I don’t think anyone has shirked away from the fact that we want to win the league,’ he said. ‘We showed in one-off games against Premiership opposition last season we are more than good enough. And there’s no doubt we’re now in a stronger place with a stronger squad than we had then. And we’ve beaten a top-six team already in the Betfred Cup (Motherwell). ‘There’s no doubt (Celtic) have a far bigger squad than us. But we’re happy with the players we’ve got within our squad at the moment. We’re more than capable of challenging them this year. ‘It’s going to be an exciting season. The demands at this club are the same, the expectations are the same and they will only get greater the further you progress through the season towards what will, hopefully, be a title at the end of it.’
