Inspector Lewis shows that he’s Still Game
MORSE and Lewis stalwart Kevin Whately is to guest star in the new series of Still Game, it was announced yesterday.
The 65-year-old English actor, best known as first Sergeant then Inspector Robbie Lewis and from Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, said he laughed out loud when he read the script.
The first new episodes of the BBC Scotland sitcom since 2007 are being filmed in studios in Dumbarton and on location in Glasgow.
The six episodes, to be screened later this year, will reunite the original cast, including Ford Kiernan, 54, and 46-year-old Greg Hemphill as old codgers Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade.
Whately, from Hexham, Northumberland, who will film his part next week, said: ‘The script made me laugh out loud and I’m really looking forward to filming it.’
Joining him as a guest star in the series will be Scots comic actress and impersonator Ronni Ancona, 48, who said: ‘I’m so honoured and thrilled to be part of Still Game. I’m a huge fan and I’m delighted to be back with the old gang again who I worked with on Pulp Video many years ago.
‘That’s the official line. The truth is it’s really all an excuse to get close to Navid [Sanjeev Kohli] – all that polyester clothing really does it for me.’
BBC Comedy executive producer Steven Canny said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome these two outstanding actors to the Still Game family.
‘Kevin is one of the most prominent, accomplished and experienced actors in the UK and Ronni’s comedy credentials speak for themselves.
‘We’re lucky to have them on board – and I can’t wait to see them tangling with Jack and Victor.’
