NOT SO STYLISH STYLISTS

They make the stars dazzle but look how they dress themselves

-

JENNIFER LAWRENCE & STYLIST RACHEL ZOE

ZOE (right), 44, who dresses stars Lawrence and Anne Hathaway, likes to think she’s famous, too.

The New Yorker has her own TV show, a clothing line and employs 14 staff. But Rachel, a mother-oftwo, is also known for clangers — including multi-coloured kaftans, see-through dresses and a maroon cape that made her look like Red Riding Hood.

MICHELLE DOCKERY & MICAELA ERLANGER

ERLANGER (right), 30, made her name by dressing Downton’s Dockery and star Hilary Swank. She also turned 12 Years A Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o into a style icon, putting her in flowing blue Prada for the 2014 Oscars.

But Micaela wears often unflattering outfits. These polka dot satin pyjamas were an odd choice for a bridal show in June.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON & KATIE GRAND

LEEDS-BORN Grand, 45 (right), is a ‘super-stylist’, having dressed Johansson, Madonna, Uma Thurman and others. She persuaded Liz Hurley to pose naked on the cover of Pop, a fashion magazine of which she was editor, just six weeks after Liz gave birth in 2002.

But Katie herself is an outlandish and — at times — bizarre dresser, with a penchant for over-thetop feathers, sequins and clashing prints.

ALEXA CHUNG & LEITH CLARK

CANADIAN-BORN Clark (right), 36, who moved to London, is behind the sleek, tailored looks of Chung and Keira Knightley.

Leith’s own style is — in her words — ‘playful and eccentric’ and inspired by Little Orphan Annie. That mostly translates to ankle-length, high-necked dresses that wouldn’t look out of place in a charity shop.

KATE HUDSON & ANGELA FINK

LOS ANGELES-based Fink (right) is behind the most camera-hungry looks of U.S. reality TV stars the Kardashians and Goldie Hawn’s actress daughter, Kate Hudson.

But at New York Fashion Week, Fink — who admires Cher — wore an ensemble that was less Seventies chic and more Seventies shriek.

SAM CAM & ISABEL SPEARMAN

KNOWN to friends as ‘Bells’, Isabel Spearman (right), 37, a half-Spanish mother-oftwo who’s married to computer tycoon Mark Crocker, was in 2010 appointed as stylist and special advisor to Sam Cameron on a reported £60,000 salary. Isabel has bags of style experience, she started off working for Sam’s mother, Lady Astor, at Oka, her furniture company, after a stint as a PR executive to Anya Hindmarch, handbag guru. Though she regularly got it right with Sam’s look, as this picture of Isabel — who’s set to collect an OBE for her services — shows, her personal style is far more fuddyduddy than her elegant employer. Isabel seems to have a penchant for baggy, shapeless gowns that hide her legs — and here she wears what appears to be a close relative of the floral bedspread.

MARGOT ROBBIE & KATE YOUNG

YOUNG, 40, (right), who also dresses actresses Sienna Miller and Rachel Weisz, has twice topped a list of the most important Hollywood stylists.

However, when she dresses herself, the choices would probably top the worst-dressed list. This recent blunder left her looking like a present waiting to be unwrapped.

EMMA WATSON & SARAH SLUTSKY

EXECUTIVE by day, stylist by night, Slutsky (right) transformed the Harry Potter actress from child star to screen siren on the red carpet.

The 27-year-old Chicagoan loves thinking up exciting new looks for the star. Sadly, that leaves no time to devote to her own wardrobe, which includes this eye-bending combo of lace dress, army jacket and paint splattered bag.

EMILIA FOX & GRACE WOODWARD

MOTHER-OF-ONE Grace (right), 40, styled Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue on The X Factor in 2010. Not all her clients share Grace’s wacky taste — she also styled the ever-elegant Fox — but on days off she likes to showcase the oddest outfits from her wardrobe.

In February, she wore this zany green and purple gown, teamed with clashing red handbag and fluffy fur coat.

PRINCESS BEA & CHARLIE ANDERSON

‘MORTIFIED’ by criticism of her tentacled Philip Treacy hat at the 2011 Royal Wedding, Beatrice hired the ex-fashion director at Tatler to revamp her image.

Charlie (right) won plaudits by encouraging Bea to swap eccentric patterns and novelty accessories for sophisticated, block colours and glamorous gowns.

Her own style, however, rivals some of Bea’s previous faux pas.
