World’s greenest tower set to open
THE greenest skyscraper in the world opens next month.
China’s Shanghai Tower – the world’s second tallest building at more than 2,000ft – will have records for highest hotel, restaurant and viewing platform, as well as fastest lifts.
Developers of the 128storey ‘ST’ say it will be the greenest skyscraper ever and it has been given the highest rating for the international Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design award.
The top of the tower has 200 turbines which will generate 10 per cent of the electricity it needs, and it will also collect rainwater and re-use waste water.
Developers claim they have reduced the £1.84billion building’s annual carbon footprint by 34,000 tons.
The world’s tallest building is Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands at more than 2,720ft.
