FIT MOORE RETURNS TO ACTION

- By MARCUS TOWNEND

RYAN MOORE returns to action after almost four weeks on the sidelines when he rides at Newmarket tomorrow. The three-time champion jockey’s last ride was a win on Aidan O’Brien-trained Alice Springs in the Group One Prix Rothschild at Deauville on July 31. During his absence, Moore missed Caravaggio’s Phoenix Stakes win at the Curragh, plus wins at York last week in the Yorkshire Oaks with Seventh Heaven and Great Voltigeur Stakes with Idaho, who heads the 25 entries left in the St Leger at yesterday’s forfeit stage. In his Betfair blog, Moore did not reveal the exact nature of his injury, but said: ‘I have been riding out for a couple of weeks, but it made sense to give the injury time to completely settle and heal.’ Moore rides Sir Michael Stoutetrained two-year-old Spatial in the opening race at Newmarket. Meanwhile, Jim Crowley’s enthusiastic challenge for the jockey’s title is being rewarded. Victory on Madam Prancealot at Lingfield took him to 71 wins, four behind Silvestre de Sousa. ÷ TODAY’S charity bets are: HARWOODS VOLANTE (Leicester, 2.40) and ARBORETUM (Sedgefield, 6.00) Both £50ew. William Hill are donating all winnings to Marcus Townend’s ride at Windsor on Saturday in aid of HEROS. Yesterday’s initial selection was a non-runner. Substitute tip Conqueress won with Hills donating £325 to HEROS.
