Taylor confident of winning title
IT’S a measure of Josh Taylor’s potential that Barry McGuigan has likened the 25-year-old to Carl Frampton. Taylor still has some way to go to match the feats of the two-weight world champion after just six pro bouts. But McGuigan has been impressed by the Scot’s rapid progress to secure a championship bout and has convinced Channel 5 to invest in his upcoming title shot. Taylor will box Dave ‘Rocky’ Ryan for the vacant Commonwealth super lightweight crown on October 21 at Meadowbank. And he’s promised to deliver after scoffing at Ryan and his manager’s claim that he’ll be ‘smashed up’. ‘Ryan has a lot of pedigree, but he’s going to find out how fast and talented I am,’ said Taylor. ‘Ryan has a lot of pedigree, but if I hit you, I’m going to hurt you. ‘I agree that it’s a massive step up, but I’m confident I can do the job.’
