Fulham close to signing Johansen

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

CELTIC midfielder Stefan Johansen was last night close to sealing a £2million move to Fulham. Sportsmail revealed in April that the Norwegian was poised to leave after rejecting attempts to persuade him to sign a new contract. Now in the final year of his deal, he was last night undergoing a medical with the English Championship club. Now manager Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in a midfielder before the window closes, with Everton’s James McCarthy a loan target, and Johansen will be the first to make way. Signed by Neil Lennon from Stromsgodset for £2m in January 2014, Johansen made just one Celtic appearance under Rodgers, as a first-half substitute in the Champions League home win over Astana earlier this month. Plagued by injury recently, however, he was missing from the squad which earned a place in the group stage in Israel on Tuesday night.
