A FLEETING VISIT
High in the sky above the earth On a moonless autumn night Something bright caught my eye Travelling at the speed of light. I On wonderedjust what andit couldI ponderedbe Maybe an extra-terrestrial Yes, maybe it was ET! Was he in a rocket Or a cosmic motor car Or was he riding shotgun Astride a shooting star? Was he on an orbit To check out planet Earth I got a bit excited Thinking he’d land on my turf! But could I entertain him — He would not speak the lingo So he wouldn’t enjoy a TV show Or, indeed, a game of bingo! But I had no need to worry About being the perfect host As my fears were soon to be laid to rest Disappearing like a ghost. For it was no extra-terrestrial Needing to phone home But another of Donald Trump’s bright ideas Dropping like a stone!
