Tour Chapoux Bordeaux Superieur 2014, £6.74 (normally £8.99), Waitrose THIS one’s a cracker. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, it’s got that Bordeaux coolness along with smooth black plum fruits and a whiff of cedar. Needs food to bring out its best.
WHITE
Charles Back Darling Sauvignon Blanc 2014, £10.99, Laithwaites PRODUCED by one of South Africa’s best-known wineries, it really is fabulous thanks to the grapes thriving here, producing a crisp white with fresh gooseberry aromas and passion fruit flavours.
Food pairing: Spicy prawns.
ROSE
Domaine Les Filles de Septembre Rosé 2015, £9.95, Yapp.co.uk AH, to be sipping this on a pavement café in the south of France... Made from a blend including Syrah and Grenache grapes, this ‘September Girls’ wine is spot-on style-wise; crisp with plenty of redcurrant flavours. From a tucked away estate in the Languedoc, it’s a real find. Food pairing: Bowl of olives.
SPARKLING
Tesco Finest* English Sparkling Wine NV, £17.50. WHEN there’s a Tesco Finest* version of a wine, you know it’s gone mainstream. Made by Kent-based Hush Heath, this is a blend of champagne grapes and balances crispness and a touch of toast. Food pairing: Full English breakfast.
