My evil in-laws are bullying me, claims wife of boxer Khan

- By Ben Wilkinson

THE wife of boxer Amir Khan has lashed out at her ‘evil’ in-laws in an extraordinary outburst.

Model Faryal Makhdoom, 25, said the family’s treatment of her husband was ‘disgusting’ and his ‘older sister ‘came to hit her’ when he was not home.

Two-time world champion Khan’s wife made the shocking claims in a series of posts on the social media network Snapchat.

In ten messages posted over three hours on Tuesday, she also accused her husband’s family of trying to break up their relationship.

US-born Miss Makhdoom wrote: ‘Don’t get your sons married if you’re going to abuse and bully the wife.

‘I’ve always been so quiet but seriously this message is for everyone! When you bring someone’s daughter treat her as your own. Your son will be much happier & so will you.’

In another post she appeared to suggest that Khan’s parents had tried to

‘Many women suffer in silence’

force him to divorce her when she was pregnant with their child.

She said: ‘Ok, I’m guessing Islam teaches us to get married and divorce our wives and treat them bad???’

And in a further post, which is believed to be about Khan’s younger sister Mariyah, she said: ‘What about when your sister in law come to hit you when your husbands not at home and still [you] don’t raise [your] hand out of respect for [your] husband!’

The 30-year-old boxer was born and raised in Bolton to a family with roots in the Punjab region of Pakistan.

In 2013 the Olympian married Miss Makhdoom at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, with the wedding reported to have cost £1million.

The couple – who also spent £150,000 on an engagement party – this year splashed out £100,000 on their daughter’s second birthday party.

Miss Khan, who according to social media is at university, responded online to say she ‘didn’t need to justify herself on social media as “Allah is watching”’.

And she posted a picture of herself with the message: ‘Do I look like I can beat someone up.’

She also accused Miss Makhdoom of making up lies ‘to get some support’.

Writing on Facebook yesterday, Miss Makhdoom said: ‘There are many women who suffer in silence due to ill treatment from the in-laws. This dark side is usually kept hidden.

‘We need woman at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women’s voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored.

‘I am every abused woman’s voice and I am grateful for my husband’s support throughout my ordeal.

‘As a Muslim entrepreneur with a successful makeup brand, my own career and fierce independence, I continue and will continue to break stereotypes.’
