Sir Cliff: What do I want for Xmas? A No 1 album

- By Vanessa Allen

IT has been almost six decades since his first hit – but Sir Cliff Richard is still hoping for another chart-topper, he revealed yesterday.

The 76-year-old singer said he hoped his new record would get to Number One, and admitted he wanted to make at least another three albums.

In an upbeat interview with The Lady magazine, Sir Cliff said he had enjoyed ‘a fantastic, incredibly fortunate life’ – despite enduring a 22month police investigation over sex abuse which was thrown out without charge earlier this year. He told how he was already planning his next album and was ‘desperate’ to cover Adele’s song Rolling In The Deep.

Sir Cliff said: ‘I’ve led a fantastic, incredibly fortunate life, and the music is still exciting to me. So what can I hope for this album? That it will be No 1 in the charts, which is what I’ve hoped for all my records.’

The album – Just… Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll – was released last month, initially reaching number four.

The singer remains the most successful British male solo artist of all time. He last topped the charts with Millennium Prayer in 1999.
