THEO James, who will star opposite emilia Fox in Laura eason’s play sex With strangers, directed by Peter DuBois, at Hampstead Theatre from January 27. rehearsals start on monday for the play, which is about a star online writer (and a bit of a bed-hopper) who meets a published author, hungry for more success. TUPPENCE MIDDLETON (pictured), who will join Benedict Cumberbatc­h in the movie The Current War, about rival power magnates Thomas Edison (Cumberbatc­h) and George Westinghou­se (Michael Shannon). Ms Middleton will portray Edison’s first wife Mary Stilwell Edison, who met the inventor when she worked for his company, punching holes into telegraph tape. The play by simon stephens, adapted from mark Haddon’s best-selling novel and directed by award-winning marianne elliott, has enjoyed great success in London, where it will have had a combined five-year run by the time it closes. a second, touring production will start at the Lowry, in salford, on January 21. as this page reported recently, Jez Butterwort­h’s new play The Ferryman, directed by sam mendes, is negotiatin­g to transfer to the Gielgud after its run at the royal Court Theatre ends in may, though no deal has been signed — yet.
