THE actor playing Baron Hardup in a seaside production of Cinderella ends up dead on a beach, with a bullet through his forehead. Charles Paris (Bill Nighy) gets the dead man’s role, and this sudden promotion puts him on the list of suspects. The plot of Jeremy Front’s comedy thriller series A CHARLES PARIS MYSTERY (RADIO 4 (FM), 11.30AM) is pretty daft, but the lines fizz with sharp wit and deadpan drollery.

WHEN Len Goodman broke his foot playing football, the doctor told him to take dancing lessons to speed up his recovery. Len gave them a go, and found that the ballroom, not the football pitch, was the place for him. For this week’s FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT (RADIO 2, 8PM), Len (pictured) presents some of the tunes that lured him

into dancing. The BBC Concert Orchestra will be joined by Hayley Sanderson and Lance Ellington, two of the versatile singers who grace Strictly Come Dancing.

They’ll sing songs from West Side Story, On The Town and Saturday Night Fever.

HANNAH, Hazel and Rowan make up the vocal trio Lady Maisery. They sing in a traditional style that was once common in northern Europe, but is now on the wane. The songs they sing can be old folk favourites or edgy new ones. They join Kathryn Tickell for a live session on tonight’s WORLD ON 3 (RADIO 3, 11PM).
