I can bring peace to the Middle East, claims ‘negotiator’ Farage
NIGEL Farage has made an extraordinary pitch for a role as peace negotiator in the Middle East.
The former Ukip leader insisted he could help settle differences in the world’s most volatile region as he is ‘good at bringing people together’.
He argued that his friendship with US President-elect Donald Trump would be useful with forging a ‘coherent approach’.
The bold bid came after Theresa May rebuffed a call from the billionaire tycoon for Mr Farage to be made British ambassador to the US.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, he also claimed he was ‘poor’, despite earning £85,000 a year as a Member of the European Parliament. And he dismissed many of his Ukip colleagues as low-grade hangers-on. Mr Farage – famously pictured with the incoming commander-in-chief in Trump Tower shortly after his stunning victory – has vented his fury at being shunned by the Prime Minister.
But he reiterated that he is ready to do whatever he can to bolster the Special Relationship. And he stressed the possibilities of working with Mr Trump to defuse tensions in the Middle East.
He said it was crucial to have a ‘coherent approach to IS,’ adding: ‘I’m not suggesting that I can do everything but I do think that I’m quite good at negotiating, I’m quite good at bringing people together.’
Asked whether that meant he wanted to bring peace to the Middle East, he replied: ‘I’m good at bringing people together... When it comes to business I am.’
The MEP also told how he was having a ‘great time’ since quitting as Ukip leader, lashing out at his former party colleagues.
He said: ‘I am not having to deal with lowgrade people every day... I don’t have to go to eight-hour party executive meetings.
‘I don’t have to spend my life dealing with people I would never have a drink with, who I would never employ and who use me as a vehicle for their own self-promotion.’
