Were EU leaders rude to ignore Theresa May?

-

WHILE watching the clip on the news of Theresa May being given the cold shoulder by European leaders, I thought of 1940 when Britain stood alone against a threat from Europe. Then, as now, the previous Prime Minister has returned from Europe with a worthless piece of paper. Now we must support a resolute Prime Minister to deliver democratic freedom for the British people.

PHILIP OAKLEY, Emsworth, hants.

The childish playground attitude of the EU leaders in giving our Prime Minister the cold shoulder in Brussels recently will simply weaken their position and strengthen that of the UK. They will discover that, as in the past, we are tough and resilient and we will continue to walk tall. Yet we are also prepared to offer a hand of friendship even when they don’t deserve it, with their bad manners and their greedy snout in the trough to which we oversubscribe under the present arrangement.

WHY on earth was Theresa May left on her own at the recent EU summit, to be ignored by the rest of the EU leaders. Childishly, they seemed to be out to make some sort of point about our forthcoming European exit. I thought it outrageous and appalling that the Prime Minister was treated as some sort of pariah by our so-called European allies. And where were the UK politicians in their condemnation of her treatment? I, as a former Labour voter, now UKIP, accept Mrs May as my country’s leader, and she deserved to be treated with more respect. The sooner we leave this shabby bunch behind, the better. Go to it, Mrs May!

David JONES, tredegar, Gwent.

The photograph of Theresa May being given the brush-off by the EU leaders says it all. They are simply career politicians who use the people they are supposed to represent as a source of their own well-being. If anyone stands in the way, they are cold-shouldered and will be punished. Well, if that is a democracy, you can keep it. The sooner we British regain our independence, the better. Let us hope that a few other countries join us, as that would alleviate our embarrassment. Remainers are quite simply on the wrong foot.
