CBBC’s series is doing a great job of being TV’s answer to the Harry Potter films. In this week’s new episode, Mildred (Bella Ramsey, pictured) settles into the routine of witch school and sets about choosing her familiar (a cat) and learning how to ride a broom. Neither task goes smoothly.

THE chariot race is truly impressive in this CGI-heavy remake, starring Jack Huston as the slave Ben-Hur and Morgan Freeman as the wise man who trains him. Everything else is seven steps behind the 1959 Charlton Heston classic.

CAPTAIN SLOW James May: The Reassemble­r, 9pm, BBC4

JAMES MAY reassemble­s the 195 parts of the 1963 Dansette Bermuda portable record player. But, as always, it’s not the rebuilding process that makes this series so much fun, but James’s reminiscen­ces about his past, here taking us through his teenage years and his musical influences.

DREW PRITCHARD returns for a new series, scouring Britain for collectibl­es. His first stop is a treasure-trove indeed — the Lancashire home of John Nolan, an antiques dealer who is retiring and selling off his collection. ‘At one time, I had over 90,000 items,’ says John, who doesn’t want his children to have to deal with it all.

ITALIAN-language coming-of-age tale about an eccentric, chaotic beekeeping family in Tuscany. Teenager Gelsomina is the busy worker bee, helping her family hive to flourish.
