Costa and Conte make their peace after fitness bust-up

-

DIEGO COSTA and Antonio Conte called a truce yesterday following the fitness row that threatened to scupper Chelsea’s title tilt. The Spain striker was seen hugging coaches as he returned to firstteam training at the club’s Cobham HQ. Costa complained of a lower-back problem last week, but the club’s fitness staff didn’t feel the injury was serious. Manager Conte sided with his staff in the row and some figures at the club feared the striker’s head had been turned by a moneyspinning offer from China. Conte has drawn a line under the incident and Costa, who is the Premier League’s joint-top scorer this season with 14 goals, could be back in the fold for Sunday’s clash against Hull City. But Sportsmail understands that Chelsea have halted talks with Costa about renewing his contract, which runs until the summer of 2019.
