Ambrose a loan target for Coyle’s Blackburn

- By JOHN McGARRY

BLACKBURN ROVERS have offered Efe Ambrose the chance to get his career back on track at Ewood Park. Frozen out at Celtic since Brendan Rodgers took charge last summer, the Nigerian international is wanted by Rovers manager Owen Coyle on a loan deal until the end of the season. Coyle’s side are sitting third bottom of the English Championship and are hopeful Ambrose’s experience can help them to edge away from the relegation zone. Ambrose also has the offer of a two-year contract with French side Bastia to weigh up but is thought to be keen to obtain a British passport and that could yet work in Blackburn’s favour — with another unnamed English club also interested in making his move permanent. The 28-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements under Rodgers this season, making just two appearances for the Parkhead club. Speaking before

Christmas, Rodgers admitted that Ambrose’s future lay elsewhere but insisted that any move away would have to suit the player. Standard Liege had a £300,000 bid for the player accepted last year but Ambrose opted to stay at Parkhead. The emergence of Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic, with Kolo Toure and Mikael Lustig providing cover, has seen Ambrose struggle to make the bench. Meanwhile, Celtic defensive target Tosin Adarabioyo is set to remain in England by swapping Manchester City for Everton. Talks between the 19-year-old England youth cap and City on a new deal have stalled. But Rodgers’ interest in Adarabioyo is likely to be ended by Toffees boss Ronald Koeman, who wants to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.
