- By Lucy Gray

THE girlfriend of a man who was killed in a New Year’s Day house fire described him as ‘the love of my life’ hours before his funeral yesterday.

Cameron Logan, 23, died in the blaze at his family home in the early hours of January 1.

More than 200 people paid their respects at his funeral yesterday.

Hours before the service, Mr Logan’s girlfriend Rebecca Williams also paid tribute to him.

The 24-year-old radio journalist described Mr Logan, who had dreams of one day becoming a police detective, as ‘a teddy bear’.

She told a radio station: ‘He had an amazing ability to make people smile and feel good about themselves.’

Miss Williams was rescued from the house in Achray Place in

‘I will always be yours’

Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, after the fire started and spent nearly three weeks in hospital.

She said she was ‘getting stronger every day’ and arrived at the funeral in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, with Mr Logan’s parents, David and Cathy, both 54.

Mr and Mrs Logan were also in the home when the fire took hold and were treated for smoke inhalation.

The family’s dog, Gomez, also died in the blaze.

Mr Logan’s brother Blair, 26, was arrested two weeks after the fire and has since appeared in court charged with murder, assault to severe injury, danger to life and attempted murder.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Detective Inspector Paul Livingstone, who headed up the inquiry, attended the funeral. A piper and a guard of honour led the hearse carrying Mr Logan’s coffin, which was draped with a Saltire.

His parents and girlfriend followed closely in a black car and were the first to enter the crematorium.

Ten of Mr Logan’s closest friends were the first to be asked to follow his parents and girlfriend inside.

Many mourners wore badges with a large ‘C’ on them and bouquets adorned the coffin, accompanied by heart-wrenching tributes.

One from Rebecca’s sister Jess read: ‘Thank you for making the past two years the happiest they could’ve been for my sister.

‘It was a privilege to have known you. Miss you every day.’

A note from Rebecca’s parents said: ‘Dearest Cameron, you brought so much joy to Bex and we loved having you in the family.’

In the centre, a short but powerful tribute read: ‘Thank you for being mine. I will always be yours.’

Speaking to Heart FM, Miss Williams said: ‘He had such a big personality, but with a sensitive soul. He was so funny and kind.

‘He was always trying to improve himself and expand his horizons, something I really admired in him.’

Mr Logan completed a degree in psychology at the University of Aberdeen the year before his death.

He achieved his personal best in his final exams and his ambition was to be a detective.

Miss Williams said: ‘I have no doubt he would have achieved it. I am so proud to have been his girlfriend. He was the love of my life.’

Tearful mourners poured out of the building after the service, with Miss Williams embracing friends and family before climbing back into the car. She gave a brave wave and smile as she drove off.

A trial date has not been set for Mr Logan’s brother, who has been charged with the murder of his younger sibling.
