Piers pulls out as TV awards host
GOOD Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has pulled out of presenting the Royal Television Society Programme Awards over a ‘silly’ campaign to ban him.
The former newspaper editor was only announced as host on Thursday. But yesterday evening he said he was withdrawing from the event over the furore surrounding his appointment.
He has been particularly unpopular on social media over his defence of Donald Trump recently. Morgan, pictured, has also been involved in public spats with celebrities including author JK Rowling and actor Ewan McGregor.
In a statement on Facebook he said: ‘I have no wish to serve as an unnecessary distraction from award winners whose hard work and skill should be celebrated without any of the silly noise this campaign has generated.’ The awards are due to be held on March 21.
