Blair’s fantasy on Brexit can’t justify indyref 2
SO Tony Blair believes that Brexit makes the case for Scottish independence ‘much more credible’.
What credibility does Blair have in making such statements? This is the man whose lasting legacy, along with his friend George W. Bush, is the Iraq War.
Of course, Nicola Sturgeon has used Blair’s utterings to yet again try to justify her case for another independence referendum.
However, the claim that the case for independence is ‘more compelling than in 2014’ could not be further from reality.
After the SNP protests over the so- called scaremongering of the No campaigners in 2014, the consequence of Scotland being independent from March last year turns that from Project Fear into Project Fact – just look at the economic situation, not to mention still unanswered questions over currency and other matters.
The argument for independence is now weaker than it was in 2014 due to the benefit of experience over the past two and a half years, where we have witnessed more clearly that the positives of being a part of the UK far outweigh separation.
If the governance of a devolved Scotland is in the mess it is in at present, the thought of a fully independent Scotland is chilling. E. Nicholls, Dunfermline.
